The White Tara Long Life Prayer is a profound and cherished Buddhist practice aimed at invoking the blessings of the female Buddha, White Tara (Jetsun Drolma). White Tara is known as the Goddess of Longevity, Healing, and Serenity. Her practice is specifically performed to:
- Extend one's lifespan and the lives of revered lamas, teachers, or loved ones.
- Heal illnesses and swiftly remove physical, mental, and spiritual obstacles that lead to untimely death.
- Grant refuge from all fears and bestow peaceful, vibrant health.
Visually, White Tara is depicted as a beautiful, compassionate figure seated in the diamond posture, radiating white light, and possessing seven eyes (three on her face and one on each palm and foot), symbolizing her watchful, all-seeing compassion for all beings.
The recitation of her prayer and mantra (Om Tare Tuttare Ture Mama Ayuh Punya Jnana Pushtim Kuru Svaha) is believed to purify negative karma and gather the positive conditions necessary for a long, meaningful life.
