A Urine Chemistry Analyzer, sometimes called a Uro Meter, is a medical laboratory device used to analyze urine samples for various chemical and physical properties. It is a quick, automated tool that helps healthcare professionals screen for and monitor a wide range of conditions affecting the kidneys, liver, urinary tract, and overall metabolism.

What it Does:

The analyzer uses urine test strips (dipsticks) that are dipped into a urine sample. The strip has multiple reagent pads that change color when they react with substances in the urine. The Uro Meter reads these color changes using optical sensors and provides quantitative or semi-quantitative results.

Parameters Typically Measured:

-Glucose → for diabetes monitoring

-Protein (Albumin) → kidney function

-pH → acidity/alkalinity of urine

-Specific Gravity → urine concentration (hydration status, kidney function)

-Ketones → diabetes or fat metabolism disorders

-Bilirubin & Urobilinogen → liver function

-Blood/Hemoglobin → urinary tract infection, stones, or trauma

-Leukocytes & Nitrites → urinary tract infections

-Ascorbic Acid → can interfere with other test results, so it’s often measured

Uses in Medicine:

-Routine health check-ups

-Early detection of kidney disease, liver disorders, and diabetes

-Monitoring urinary tract infections (UTIs)

-Assessing hydration status

-Screening during pregnancy (e.g., for protein in preeclampsia)
